Review: Writer's Wellness by Joy E. Held

I haven't yet posted book reviews here on my blog, but I wanted to share this review because many of my readers are also writers. Here is my review of Writer Wellness: A Writer’s Path to Health and Creativity by Joy E. Held.

In Writer Wellness, Joy Held presents a comprehensive program for achieving mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical unity. As an author, I know the challenges of maintaining a healthy lifestyle while being absorbed by my writing. Healthy meals and exercise are the first to go. I do my best work when I’m rested, centered, and my body is comfortable.

As a former psychotherapist, I believe in the value of creativity that feeds the human spirit and engages the mind and the emotions. I’ve long believed that creativity is a human need and results in joy and wholeness. Joy Held has given us a book that will not only benefit writers, but anyone who wants to live a healthier lifestyle and tap into the depths of their creative spirit.

Linda Rettstatt, Author of Next Time I’m Gonna Dance

Very interesting, Linda...and Writerwellness. I know somewhat of which you speak. Sitting at a computer for long periods cannot only sap your energy, but can upset your hormones, your endocrine system, your brain, too!
One of my dear on-line friends also writes about such things, so I usually pay attention to what she says.
Thanks...good advice for all us authors who need more balance in our lives. Celia

I think someone must be sending me a message! I was thinking earlier today how bad I've gotten with no exercise and I'm not eating healthy. My husband and I trained with my brother-in-law awhile back and we were both eating healthy, exercising regularly feeling great. It gave me so much energy for writing! Suddenly I'm so focused on my writing, everything else has been forgotten. This looks like a great book! I will check it out!

I often get so busy I forget to take care of myself. This book has shown me how easy it can be if I just set a little time aside each day to do those things that not only help me feel good, but fuel my creative energy as well.
